Our God Is an Awesome God!
William Paley, a 19th-century scientist, wrote a book entitled Natural Theology, or “Evidences of the Existence & Attributes of the Deity of God …” In this book, he posed a hypothetical situation of one accidentally dislodging a metal object from the forest floor with their foot, an object with a pop-open lid, crystal surface, circular numerical dial, with hands that moved in a coordination with the passing of a day. The object was apparently designed to accomplish a purpose.
He posed two ways of assessing this object’s existence: (1) Natural processes assembled the object, or (2) it was designed, created, and assembled by an intelligent being.
Although anything is possible, the universe lives by that which is probable. What is the most probable explanation of this object? William Paley posed the second idea as the more probable explanation of the existence of what is obviously a pocket watch.
To this day, the concept is known as “The Paley Argument.” The argument explains a lot of things, and it is the “death knell” of the atheistic evolution model of Charles Darwin.
Design is seen throughout every physical structure discovered by man, from the molecular machinery within a living cell to the great, local galactic clusters that swarm—predictably—in the universe.
What better explanation can be posed for the existence of these structures, than the simple statement at the opening of our Bibles: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Gen. 1:1)?
