No Help From the Government

Our current President showed his political colors early in his administration, as he rescinded the “Mexico City Policy,” whereby our tax dollars will now go to support abortions conducted outside the US. We can anticipate future executive orders and policies, whereby fundamental Biblical truths will be overlooked or by-passed, “for the common good.”

I receive Dr. James Dobson’s monthly newsletter, wherein current news about political attacks on the family are discussed. Christians can expect a mounting attack on the Biblical definition of marriage in the coming years, and possibly even a federal effort to recognize sodomy as an approved sexual basis of marriage.

Last November, California voters approved Proposition 8, which amended their State constitution to make same-sex marriage illegal. Dr. Dobson cited an article entitled “The Religious Case for Gay Marriage” (Newsweek, December 15, 2008), written by Lisa Miller (Newsweek’s senior religion editor), in response to the passage of Prop 8. In that article, Lisa Miller asserts, “While the Bible and Jesus say many important things about love and marriage, neither explicitly defines marriage as between one man and one woman.”

Here is a glaring example of someone who did not read her Bible! God plainly stated His law and design of marriage in Genesis 2:24, and Jesus re-stated that law during His ministry in Matthew 19:1 – 8, as designed by God Himself to be a life-long commitment and arrangement between one man and one woman. God, the Designer of everything we see, including our social order, designed marriage to be heterosexual!

After Miller’s article, Newsweek editor Jon Meacham wrote, “To argue that something is so because it is in the Bible is more than intellectually bankrupt—it is unserious, and unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition.” (Brothers, “dem’s fightin’ words!”)

When standards are ignored, when truth is set aside, anything is possible! Those who would institutionalize sin are striving in every way they can to discredit God’s standard of human conduct. Those who practice sin, “sow to the wind; they shall reap the whirlwind.” (Hos. 8:7)

Morally and ethically speaking, we are in for a “rough ride.” Christian, be prepared for public ridicule, as you stand for God’s definition of marriage. Crave the praise of God more than the praise of men. (See Jn. 12:43)
