History of Metro

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE METRO CHURCH

Metro began on May 30, 1971 as an outreach congregation to the then sparse northern fringes of the Detroit Metro area. Blessed from the start with an abundance of talented Christians, elders and deacons were immediately ordained and inducted to oversee and to serve the congregation.

We worshiped at the Walsh Elementary School between 1971-74, while we were surveying a site for our current facility, which we first occupied in the summer of 1974. The building has been expanded at two separate times to accommodate developing needs of the congregation.

I was privileged to serve as Metro’s first minister between 1971-79. During that period, we grew, with God’s grace and direction, from about 35 to some 250 members! My second ministry with Metro began in 1999 and ended in 2005. Dan Robinson assumed the major ministerial duties in 2006.

The important history of the Metro church, however, is measured in terms of the number of souls won for Christ, the spiritual development of its membership, and the shared love exhibited toward one another and our fellowmen.

I've a favorite motto for this church that I love so dearly: "This is a good church, and you are good people!"  Believe it!
